Magnetic resonance imaging of joints – upper and lower extremities
If you have complaints in the lower or upper extremities, you may want to consider an MRI scan, which we perform at the PP DIAGNOSTYKA laboratory in Poznan. This one of the most accurate diagnostic methods allows a precise assessment of cartilage, ligaments and bone structures. Using a high-powered magnet, radio waves and a high-tech computer, possible abnormalities and diseases of these areas can be picked up. With this highly specialized procedure, the patient can receive a diagnosis from the doctor and take quick steps to treat the detected condition.
Who can opt for an MRI of the joints?
Diseases of the osteoarticular system often produce no symptoms for a long time. Over time, pain, inflammation and reduced mobility appear. In such a situation, the standard for conducting an accurate diagnosis is a magnetic resonance imaging study. This type of procedure makes it possible to determine the cause of a chronic condition and quickly implement appropriate management. Among other things, such symptoms as:
- mobility problems,
- Pain and stiffness in the lower or upper extremities,
- Abnormalities seen with arm and leg movements,
- frequent subfebrile states and generalized weakness.
In addition, MRIs can be performed when cancer of the skeletal system is suspected, before planned surgery and to evaluate the effects of orthopedic treatment.
What to keep in mind when preparing for a joint MRI?
At our facility, we most often perform MRI of the knee joint where we evaluate the ligaments, bone and cartilage structure of the joint and surrounding soft tissues. We also examine the shoulder, elbow, wrist, sternoclavicular and sacroiliac joints. Imaging is painless and non-invasive.
