Constant back pain, symptoms indicating osteoporosis or suspicion of disc herniation are situations in which a CT scan of the spine is recommended. We perform it at our clinic in Poznan, using appropriate medical equipment. Non-invasive in most cases, the method provides results in the form of a series of images that can show possible abnormalities in the diagnosed area. For more information on this subject, we encourage you to contact us. We also invite those interested in registering for the aforementioned spinal examination.
When should a CT scan of the spine be performed?
The most important symptom warranting a CT scan is primarily back pain. However, there are many more indications for its performance. These include a history of trauma, the characteristics of which may indicate damage to the lumbar region, for example. Suspicion of cancer infiltration also qualifies the patient for a CT scan of the spine. Painful degenerative changes found by the doctor, as well as visible malformations in the aforementioned area, are further reasons for performing this type of examination. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that their implementation must be preceded by a detailed history taken by a specialist as part of the consultation.
A spinal examination can be performed to:
- Assessment of the spine for discopathy (known as spinal herniation),
- Detection of cancerous tumors and other pathological changes,
- assessing the extent of injuries,
- detecting structural anomalies, such as spina bifida (a type of birth defect of the spine),
- Assessing the effects of treatment, e.g.: surgery.
There may be other reasons why a doctor will recommend a CT scan of the spine.
